The Ernie Els winery opened in 2005, and its vines are planted on the slopes of the Helderberg mountains, with a focus on plantings of Cabernet Sauvignon. The winery itself emphasises state-of-the art processes within modern surrounds.
Wines produced include Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Syrah, Cabernet Sauvignon Rosé, Chenin Blanc, and selected blends.
The tasting room terrace allows visitors expansive views of Stellenbosch and the Helderberg mountains. A variety of wine tastings are on offer, as well as a menu of fire-grilled dishes. Farmhouse cuisine is served at the restaurant, with lunch served daily from noon to 3.30pm and dinner Thursdays to Saturday from 6pm to 9.30pm (November to April). Booking is essential. The Chili Shed espresso bar offers coffee and breakfast Wednesday to Sunday, 8am to 3pm, for cyclists, hikers, and visitors embarking on the Ernie Els x Alto trail. The tasting room, restaurant, and Chili Shed are available for functions.
