Blaauwklippen
One of the Cape’s oldest wine farms, Blaauwklippen dates back to 1682, and its name is said to be derived from the granite found on the property.

Established on land allocated to Dutchman Gerrit Jansz Visscher (Visser) in 1682, who planted the first vines, Blaauwklippen not only carries with it many hundreds of years of Cape history, but also a considerable wine-making legacy. It was one of the first wine farms to join the Stellenbosch Wine Route, and its winemakers have, over the years, contributed to the region’s wine-making industry with award-winning wines.
The Blaauwklippen Tasting House offers seasonal wine pairings, including an avant-garde wine-and-food-pairing menu, as well as small plate meals. Other attractions include a restaurant, walking trails, and historical architecture, among others.
Blaauwklippen wines include its Zinfandel, Cabernet Sauvignon, Malbec, Cabernet Franc; Shiraz, Merlot, Brut MCC, Chenin Blanc, Sauvignon Blanc, Chardonnay, and Blush Rosé. The Blaauwklippen Blending Competition encourages wine-lovers to try their hand at wine blending, and the farm’s family market, held every Saturday and Sunday, remains a popular weekend destination.
