The farm has been under the stewardship of the Brink family since 1897, and its history dates to 1698 when Governor Simon van der Stel first granted the land to Captain Olof Bergh, who was married to Anna de Koning, a daughter of freed slave Angela of Bengal. A fully operational farm, Groot Phesantekraal encompasses vineyards, grain fields, and the raising of cattle and sheep – its overall operation grounded in and supported by biodiversity.
Wines produced include a sparkling Chenin Blanc, Chenin Blanc, Sauvignon Blanc, Rosé, Pinotage, and selected blends.
The Groot Phesantekraal restaurant is open Tuesdays to Sundays, from 8.30am to 4pm. The kitchen closes at 3.30pm. The tasting room is closed on Mondays, but is open from 9am to 5pm, Tuesdays to Saturdays, and from 10am to 4.30pm on Sundays. The last tastings are at 4pm. No bookings are accepted at the tasting room. Groot Phesantekraal is closed on December 25 and 26, and January 1.
